I have a filter on my email account that automatically files spam messages into a separate folder. Trouble is, not everything that ends up in the folder is spam.  I recently sent a message to an old friend, someone I had gotten back in touch with after many years. When her reply never came, I wondered what had gone wrong. It turns out her message had been lingering in my spam folder for days.

Now I make it a habit to empty my spam folder daily. Not only does this keep the number of messages from becoming unmanageable, I’ll never let another “real” message get lost among the dreck.
